An easy and effective way to ensure your pet’s retrieval if they ever get lost.
Dogs, cats and other pets are naturally curious creatures. No matter how much care you take, all it takes is a split second of distraction for your pet to get away from you. When your pet is microchipped, your chances of finding them and being reunited increase exponentially. If your pet is not yet microchipped, or if you have any questions at all about this technology, please contact us at 902-865-8110 and one of our client care specialists will talk you through the latest info on pet microchipping.
A microchip is an important piece of identification. It is a small, electronic chip enclosed in a glass cylinder about the same size as a grain of rice. The microchip itself does not have a battery — it is activated by a scanner that is passed over the area. The radio waves put out by the scanner activate the chip. The chip transmits the identification number to the scanner, which displays the number on the screen. The number which is unique to each microchip will contain all of your information. NOTE: Remember to update phone numbers or addresses on your microchip if they change. Call our team to learn how you can do this.
Microchipping takes no more time than any other injection or vaccine. The needle used to insert the microchip is quite large, but pets do not mind it much more. The experience can sometimes be more worrying for the owner than the pet. A microchip can be inserted during any regular appointment. However, we find many owners have it done during their puppy or kitten’s routine spay or neuter for efficiency’s sake.
